The OG Schemer
Ever since I was a kid, game nights have been an important part of my life. It was a way for me to bond with my siblings, parents, cousins, you name it. On one occasion, my aunt was about to win the game we were playing. The only way to prolong the game was if I some how had a skip, which I didn’t. Thankfully for me, my cousin, sitting next to me, did! We passed cards under the table, I skipped my aunt, and my cousin won. I guess you could say I was always a schemer at heart.
I never intended to create a card game though. The idea first came to me after a round of one of my favorite games when my brother-in-law called us all “schemers and scammers.” I thought, “wow, that would be a cool name for a card game. Over the next few months, I would think about what Schemers & Scammers could look like.
I knew that I wanted to include The Prisoner’s Dilemma within my game. I loved that concept ever since I learned about it in college. Yet, I had a hard time figuring out how it played into Schemers & Scammers. Then one fateful night, it came to me in a dream. The name of the cards didn’t, but I got to play the mechanic. I woke up and immediately wrote it down.
Then came the scary part, I needed to pitch it to the voice of reason within my family, my wife! After I told her about my idea and how it all worked, there was silence. And more silence. Finally, she told me it was a good idea. It honestly shocked me! That was back in early 2023. Since then, I’ve been working on delivering the best game possible.
Schemers & Scammers wouldn’t be possible without you! So many friends and family members have played it and given me great feedback. Several cards in Schemers & Scammers were directly inspired by my closest friends and family. Additionally, I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the support of so many people who are willing to take a chance on my game without playing it.
Thank you again for all the love and support! I hope Schemers & Scammers brings you as much joy as it does me!
